I am a student in British Columbia, Canada. I grew up in Saskatchewan,
and still think about it everyday. The mountains, warmer climate, and lifestyle
keep me in BC. As much as I miss Saskatchewan, this is my home now. I live a
gluten free lifestyle, and love to cook! I love trying new recipes, mastering
old ones in a gluten free way, and seeing what new creations I can make. I love
yoga, being outside, and reading. I am creative, and passionate about many
things.
I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 2009, and that is
when my life truly changed in many ways. Not only was I trying to figure out
what I wanted from this beautiful life, I was doing it with poor health and the
lack of energy to fight for motivation. The smallest goals were out of reach
and I no longer had a passion for the things I once did. I was miserable and
knew I had to make a change in more than just my diet. I made the decision to
move to Kamloops. I took the plunge into life, left what I knew behind, and
started over. This is where I found Adaptive Sports at Sun Peaks, a program
that helps individuals with disabilities learn to ski or snowboard, and I
discovered that I had a passion for helping others reach their goals, overcome
their fears, and strive for something they never thought possible. Through this
amazing program I learned that I wanted to help others in every aspect I could!

I realized that I have struggled in various ways with Celiac
Disease. I had to learn a whole new way to cook, a new way to do my grocery
shopping, and everywhere I go I need to be on the lookout for gluten. Not only
I do have these struggles, so does everyone else that suffers from Celiac
Disease or food intolerances. While adjusting to a new lifestyle I also learned that Celiacs can also cause thyroid problems, migraines, depression, and various other health issues. These were all new battles that I had to, and continue to battle everyday. I had to find a place where I was healthy again and happy with myself and my life. This is where Balance and Elegance came from. It
was an opportunity to help make the transition into a gluten free lifestyle
easier for others, and help them see that it is possible to live a healthy
gluten free life with no filter. I want to create a community where the struggles are real and not minimized to eliminating certain foods because that is only one piece to a very complicated puzzle. It is a place to share my stories, recipes, and tips on finding
balance in life, battle the bad days, and show people that they can come out
stronger then before.
HERE is a deeper look into my story.

I believe that everyone needs a balance in his or her life.
– Mind, spirit, health, and soul. Everyone needs to find a place where they can
juggle school, work, and healthy eating while remaining happy, healthy, and
motivated to do the best they can.
There are always setbacks, and roadblocks in life. It is how an
individual handles these problems that matters. Overcoming obstacles with style
and grace allows a person to look at the world in a simple and clear way.
